I'm back! I've been doing some non-embroidery, non-lace crafts recently — namely, cartonnnage, or fabric box making. I'll probably post some pictures of my recent cartonnage projects in another post, but for now, it's back to embroidery!
This past weekend, I framed up my phase 4 piece: Karahana. This is the JEC's version of it:
But as you probably know by now, my version will not look much like this. 😂 It will be a cold day in hell when I stitch anything on an orange-red background, no matter how lucky it is. 😉 Also, I'm not a huge fan of gold. Instead, I will be stitching this flower mainly in silver on a blue-green background.
I originally wanted it on a blue Monmuji silk — and that is, in fact, what I ordered. But apparently they can no longer get that, so they changed the fabric to a blue-green Nagoya Obi silk with silver flow (shiny silver waves running through it). This seemed like a significant change to make without telling me in advance, but fortunately, I absolutely love the new fabric. Here it is all framed up and ready to stitch:
The color doesn't come across great here, but it's really a beautiful Caribbean sea blue that's variegated and lighter toward the center. Those wavy lines are a light silver that shimmer and shine, and the whole effect is just magical. I think it will be lovely with the flower stitched in silver. I might also do a light blonde gold for some small elements — it's a very pale, almost silvery gold — but we'll see how I feel once I get going on it. I have multiple ideas about how to make this my own, but I reserve the right to change my mind. 😉
Anyway, my first lesson is about a week away, so hopefully I'll have more posts about phase 4 soon.
